Overview of 2021 Buick Enclave

The name "Buick" may not ring a bell, but you can be-rest-assured that the automaker builds some of the coolest car models. One of those models is the "Buick Enclave" SUV, a mid-size crossover SUV. The first models of the Buick Enclave entered the auto market sometime in 2008 and were then classed under the full-size crossover SUV category. By 2018, the hefty SUV was redesigned and drop a notch down into its current mid-size crossover SUV category.

The 2021 model of the SUV is definitely a first choice pick for most car buyers when placed side by side with other vehicles in the same category. Its exterior styling and design are aesthetically enticing, while its large tires give it a sturdy and inviting appearance. We will explore the SUVs characteristics and qualities in later sections.

Overview of 2021 Toyota Highlander

On the other hand, the Toyota Highlander requires very little or no introduction. After all, it is a Toyota. The mid-size SUV offers the kind of qualities you would expect from a Toyota built car. From exterior styling to vehicle reliability, the 2021 Toyota Highlander has it all. 2021 Highlander is a fourth-generation model of the SUV which was first introduced as far back as 2000. Just a look at the ride gives an impression of a posh and expressive ride. The Highlander may not be a BMW X5 or a Mercedes GLE, but it's surely one cool SUV.

Details of the pricing of Nigerian used models of both Toyota Highlander and Buick Enclave are shown in the table below. However, only a price range of the various year models of both SUVs are made available in the table. Unfortunately, you may not find a large number of used models of the Buick Enclave in the market. This is where the Toyota Highlander beats the Buick Enclave, as the Nigerian market is flooded with used models of the SUV.

Prices of Nigerian Used of both SUV
 Model  Price
Toyota Highlander ₦1.65 million - ₦18 million
Buick Enclave ₦1.20 million - ₦17 million

Clearly, the 2021 trims of the Buick Enclave are a bit more pricey than the 2021 Toyota Highlander trims. For instance, the top Avenir trim of the 2021 Buick costs a good $6000 more than the top Platinum trim of the 2021 Highlander. However, the used models of Toyota Highlander seems to cost more than the Buick Enclave. This means your brand new Buick Enclave may not fetch as much as the Highlander if you try reselling it.

Obviously, the Highlander is the better deal when it comes to pricing considering that it cost less for a brand new model and fetches a better price for a used model.

Comparison of the 2021 Toyota Highlander vs 2021 Buick Enclave: Design and Technology

The exterior styling of the 2021 Toyota Highlander is not just refined but also captivating. The sharp contours and chiselled corners, along with its aggressive LED headlamps and fierce-looking grille gives the 2021 Highlander an enticing look. More than that, its 20-inch wheels enhance the SUVs balance and performance while also giving it this sophisticated and sleek outlook.

Offering better balance and performance is a selection of two-wheel sizes, either the 18-inch or the 20-inch wheel sizes.

Interestingly, both SUVs offer the power liftgate function, which allows you access to the rear cargo area with just a kick of the leg in the event your hands are full. See the video below of the power liftgate function in the 2021 Toyota Highlander.

Comparison of the 2021 Toyota Highlander vs 2021 Buick Enclave: Engine and Performance

On the side of vehicle performance and engine capability, both mid-size SUVs deliver numbers and functional qualities that are not just cool but really impressive. Starting with the 2021 Toyota Highlander, the SUV is offered with two powertrains, a hybrid and a standard petrol engine system. The standard petrol engine powertrain comes with a 3.5 Liter V6 engine that delivers 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the hybrid powertrain combines a 2.4 Liter 4 cylinder engine and a number of Permanent magnets synchronous motors to deliver about 243 hp and 175lb-ft. Combines with the standard petrol engine powertrain options is either an 8-speed Electronically controlled automatic transmission while an Electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT) is combined with the hybrid powertrain.

Either engine option performs impressively in multiple terrains from mud to snow and sandy terrains considering that it makes use of Independent MacPherson strut suspensions managing the front idea and wishbone suspension manages the SUVs rear area. Interestingly too, the 2021 Toyota Highlander clears the (0-60) mph lap in just 7.8 seconds.

On the other hand, the 2021 Buick Enclave comes with a 3.6 Liter V6 engine that supplies 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque to the wheels through a 9-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission that is accompanied by driver shift control. You also get to choose from either a Front-Wheel-Drivetrain or an All-Wheel-Drivetrain. Interestingly, the FWD comes standard across all 4 trims while the AWD is available in only three of the four trims (Essence, Premium and Avenir trims).

Final Verdict

Clearly, both SUVs are just solid. Maybe one has an edge over the other in some areas, like where the Buick Enclave outclasses the Highlander when it comes to the interior style and design. And where the Highlander beats the Enclave when it comes to fuel economy and safety rating. Still, both are solid SUVs. But our final verdict lies with Toyota Camry especially because of the extra points gained in safety and fuel economy. You can tell how important those areas are. But the Enclave is a really good looking SUV that should make you feel very important when you ride around in it.
