2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition: Introduction
From inception in 2014, Lexus has made it very clear that this RC F model will be micro-studied for improvements that will take it beyond most of its other models into the future. The 2020 RC F is a testament to this fact as most of its components have been tweaked to give increased performance when compared to its previous editions.
More than 5 years and now 2020 Lexus RC F Track edition is finally here!
Lexus general is rated very high in reliability, but this sports car takes reliability to another level, without a need to come back for after sales service for a very long time. The ability to tuck-in its perforce and ability using the Eco system is another way of saving running costs as it reduces the fuel consumption appreciably until the Eco function is turned off again.
Lexus has given the automobile world another piece of engineering innovation in the 2020 RC F. The fact that the RC F can perform marvelously well on open roads, in traffic, and also on the track, speaks volume of the versatility of the RC F.
Naijauto brings the latest in automobile engineering technology offered by Lexus in this 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition project. So let’s dive in and see.
2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition: Design overview
With the Lexus RC F Coupe of previous years, you are likely to fall in love with almost all its features like the solid build of its naturally aspirated V8, 5.0-liter engine, but with some exceptions. These exceptions are majorly two, and they include the big weights and the fact that this weight is fitted mostly in front.
The problem with this is that the weight leads to an over-steer as well as overtaxing the brakes and tyres when really accessing the power of this machine.
Look at those grille and wheel! Oh Im already addicted to this Track Edition!
Lexus automatically brought this on the RC F when it designed its platform as a blend between three fantastic existing platforms of the GS sedan, IS convertible, and IS sedan. The three were used as the platform for the front, middle, and rear, respectively, which made for a great platform but with added weights that were not necessary.
But wait! That’s not the end, as the 2020 RC F model sets that weight aside. It has decreased its weight by 55lb while also adding some 5bhp to its previous 467bhp. But there is still more!
The special edition 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition (TE for short) weighs less than the regular 2020 Lexus RC F of about 120lb bringing the total shed weight to 176lb, an expression of Lexus commitment to the F models.
Most of the shed weight was taken from the wheels and brakes, making use of the understanding of weight pairing by shifting the weight away from the centre of gravity. With the carbon fibre hood, roof, trunk lid, and wing, it is just another scientific method of shedding weight.
Other weight shedding components of the TE includes a titanium exhaust and a carbon cabin cross brace, which is part of what the design team had considered to come up with a lighter yet stronger piece of engineering.
The Lexus 2020 RC F Track Edition is lighter with much more manoeuvrability!
The TE is enamoured with a Torsen limited-slip differential from the regular RC F optional torque-vectoring differential. This has been designed to stay close enough to sync the reactions of the rear tyres to the right pedal of the TE. It has a 3.13:1 rear drive ratio which is a new arrangement from the 2.97:1 ratio that it previously had. This is to increase the precision of the throttle position, with some serious set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres included to reduce the wear while on the track.

2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition interior – what’s with the space and finish?
A tour of the interiors of the 2020 RC F will assure you of the Lexus luxury comfort signature. From the CD player to the electronic scratch pad, it is one of comfort that reminds one of what a Japanese sports car have always offered when compared with the other German or British counterparts.
The leather upholstery is a blend of bold colours and RC F signature!
The red colours of the interiors make a bold statement in style!
The colour schemes of the interior of this sports car is not the usual boring browns, blacks, or greys, but with bold red colours. The flare red leather and Alcantara is everywhere in the interior, while the floors also match the red with its carpets. There is however no heating or cooling in a bid to reduce weight, but other luxury features like 17-speaker sound system are included.
The rear seats, however, stands out like a sore thumb that cannot be cut but useless, as the seat could not have been able to carry any passenger.
Though the rear seats are really not spacious it does not lack style!
2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition: Driving experience
The TE seems to have the feel of more power and yet, more control as the under-steer had been dealt with, though not completely.
According to Yuuichi Tsurumoto, the Chief Engineer of RC F, the throttle was the main characteristic he wanted to deal with, and we can announce to him that he had dealt with it decisively with the 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition. Though the regular 2020 RC F does not have as much of the control of the TE built in, it is still way better than the previous version it is replacing, and much more fun to drive.
The carbon brakes are excellent at halting the beast with ease while still maintaining its state, with very minimal degradation. While the multi-modal engine gives enhanced maneuvering abilities on the track, the braking is also there to ease down the speed into a preferred cruise. If you just want to cruise, the TE responds accordingly even on long tours without giving you a clue as to the weapons-grade performance it’s capable of.
The under-steer problem has been dealt with, syncing the brakes and throttle for better controls!
2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition: How much does it cost?
To own this piece of engineering beauty in Nigeria might require that one really have saved up well as the price are really off the hook. The difference between the TE and the standard 2020 RC F is, even more, the issue here as the gap is east-west wide.
The basic 2020 RC F will cost ₦43 million (inclusive of 75% duty and RORO shipping costs), while the 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition costs ₦62.5 million.
The tyres are equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and carbon brakes for effective stops!
Also, Naijauto notes the increased performance in throttle efficiency given in this machine as another plus for the designing team at Lexus, but the price gap between the TE and the regular RC F is another thing that might discourage some people.
In all the 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition is a masterpiece of engineering ingenuity and beauty, with additional performance and increased control between the steering and the throttle. This is definitely not as good as an M4, no it is not! It is way better. Thanks to Lexus!
