This is a review of the 2021 Toyota Hybrid cars, the Toyota Venza and Sienna hybrids. Click here to read the interesting review.

Two 2021 cars were just released by Toyota, and guess what? They are both fully coming to the market as Toyota Hybrid cars. The flagship Toyota minivan, Sienna, and the one time Toyota crossover, Venza, are the cars I'm talking about here.

You know Hybrid technology is just slightly less of an innovation than self-driving cars in Nigeria; one of the many issues with this technology is that Nigerian automobile technicians haven't gotten a hang of it yet. So, my fear now is, will Hybrid/Electric vehicles in Nigeria really survive or take off?.

Hybrid technology is the best alternative for auto manufacturers to tackle emission and gas mileage reduction. Nissan has been taking the lead in this technology amongst Japanese car manufacturers. They displayed the same recently by launching the Nissan Kicks in Thailand which was its latest effort for lower emission vehicles. Now, Toyota is responding with releases of these two! The 2021 Toyota Venza and 2021 Toyota Sienna!

Now, let's take a look at these two cars separately and what makes them special.

1. The 2021 Toyota Venza review!

The Toyota Venza is a two-row Hybrid crossover SUV that is smaller than the Highlander SUV and is built on the platform of the 2020 RAV4 though it's bigger in size. This 2021 Venza shares no resemblance to the older Toyota Venza that was discontinued back in 2015.

The 2021 Venza will be offered exclusively with a hybrid power train and an all-wheel-drive that will make sure it can go through every Nigerian road terrain even on the worst days.

1.1. Exterior appearance of the Venza

The shape of the 2021 Venza is very similar to the 2020 Venza and the general new Toyota looks for SUVs. The Venza is free of many sharp edges like the RAV4 which gives it a very subtle feel as a Hybrid vehicle.

Rearview of the Venza, see those thin taillights!

At the rear, it has a very thin taillight that spans the whole rear which gives it a very sporty feel compared to the Highlander.

1.2. Interior of the Venza

The Venza's center stack is very angular with heads up display available on some trim levels. The Venza has a two-tone interior color scheme that makes the car very attractive on the inside.

It comfortably seats 3 adult-sized passengers at the rear in addition to its two front seats. This car is for small families that want cargo space from a futuristic-looking Hybrid Vehicle.

1.3. Technology and features of the 2021 Venza

The Venza is powered by an inline-4 cylinder engine and three electric motors that will produce an overall 219 horsepower similar to the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It is not a plug-in hybrid car meaning the rechargeable battery cannot be charged from an external power source like a Toyota Prius Prime.

The Venza is equipped with active lane control, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, like most electric cars for sale in Nigeria. It also features a push-button panoramic roof, heated and cooled seats, and a surround-view reverse camera system.

1.4. Trim levels of the Venza

The Venza is offered in three different trim levels. The LE, XLE, and Limited. An 8.0 inches screen is standard on the LE and XLE trim while a 12.3 inches screen comes with the Limited edition Venza.

The Venza is pretty cool, right! We hope that this vehicle along with the first fully electric vehicle to be launched in Nigeria will get Nigerians' attention and soon shifts their interest to this new type of vehicle, the vehicle of the future.

2. The 2021 Toyota Sienna review!

For the first time ever, Toyota is making a minivan with only a Green vehicle (Hybrid) option for buyers, which seems like a big risk especially in Nigeria where Hybrid car maintenance is in its baby stage.

Very aggressive look on the new Sienna

The 2021 Sienna is the fully redesigned Hybrid minivan from Toyota that will turn a lot of heads on the roads for many reasons.

2.1. The exterior of the 2021 Sienna

The Sienna has a very bold styling which currently makes it the wildest looking minivan in the new car market. It has a thin front grille coupled to a spiked headlight and a fully developed lower grille that makes it stand out.

From the side, it doesn't seem like a van at all

From the side view, you will notice that the Sienna looks very much like a Highlander and it's hard to tell it is a minivan at first glance.

2.2. Interior and features of the 2021 Sienna

The Sienna continues as a both a seven and eight-seater minivan but now with extendable middle row seats to create more legroom. However, we have a slight problem here. The 2021 Sienna cannot have its mid-row seats removed for maximum cargo space because of the presence of a side airbag in the seats for better passenger safety.

A very technologically advanced interior

The 2021 Sienna has a lot of juicy attractions for passengers. Seven USB ports in the car, plus 18 cup holders for people that like to wine and dine on the move. A voice- amplification system that makes the driver talk to people at the back, a rear entertainment system, and a power sliding door and liftgate that can be controlled automatically.

2.3. The technology of the 2021 Sienna

It is powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine paired to two electric motors to produce a total of 243 horsepower and that is a significant 53 horsepower drop compared to last year's model of the Sienna. Toyota claims the towing capacity of the Sienna remains the same, which means it can tow heavy vehicles with this new engine also.

No more V6 engine for the Sienna and that is a major power concern for Nigerian buyers but the fact that the Sienna can act as an electric vehicle makes it a great car for people that are considering fuel economy. This should offset the cost of running an electric car in Nigeria.

2.4. Trim levels of the Sienna

The LE, XLE, XSE, and Limited trim levels are what the Sienna has to offer us for the 2021 year model. The XSE is a new trim level that gives the Sienna a sportier appearance with a dark finish 20-inches allow wheels and a more aggressive-looking front and rear bumper.

The new face of family-cars in the world

The Platinum models feature a head-up display, a 360-degree reverse camera, an onboard vacuum cleaner, and a refrigerated compartment for maximum comfort while on a trip.

3. Pricing for the 2021 Toyota Venza and Sienna

The 2021 Toyota Venza price in Nigeria will start from about ₦11,000,000 excluding shipping costs while the 2021 Toyota Sienna price in Nigeria will range from ₦11,500,000 for lower trims to ₦18,000,000 for top trim levels. This is the average pricing for brand new Toyota cars all over the world.

4. What is Toyota saying to Nigerians?

It means Nigerian technicians need to train and acquire new knowledge on increased energy efficiency-focused vehicles like Hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles for two main reasons.

First, Nigerians buy Tokunbo cars a lot; technicians have to advise their customers on what to consider when buying electric cars/hybrid cars in Nigeria as Tokunbo. Secondly, the Venza and Sienna are two Toyota Hybrid cars that Nigerians will definitely buy.

I guess the next technology on cars that the world will appreciate would be the production of cars that run on fluid power like water. The combustion engine is gradually becoming a thing of the past for new car technology and we must follow the EV trend because there are many reasons to consider buying an electric car in Nigeria. Who knows, perhaps we shall soon see cars like the 2019 Tesla Model S on Nigerian roads. Hybrid cars Toyota manufactured or of other brands are definitely the next step for Nigeria.

Hybrid cars' advantages and disadvantages are varied, but when you consider the big picture, they are still a solid choice for buyers even in Nigeria.
