As the election climate in Nigeria gets stronger and some officials are being congratulated, others are saying their final goodbyes to the office they once held dear. The Mercedes-Benz SLC roadster is officially saying its final goodbyes to its numerous customers of over many years, but not without a final edition.
The SLC 300 has redefined the term Luxury sports Car for more than two decades!
The automobile market is fast gravitating towards the crossovers while the traditional sedans and the two-seater convertibles have continuously declined in production. This is the case with the Mercedes Benz SLC 300 which Mercedes Benz has officially discontinued its production, after 23 years of continuous manufacture. Even though there is no successor in sight for the Mercedes Benz SLC 300, a final edition is being produced.
The Final Edition is available as a Sun Yellow colour for the Euro-spec!
For this farewell edition package, the changes transcend basic appearance for the SLC 300 but include the AMG SLC 43 as well in these modifications. The American spec will differ in colour from the Euro-spec with a selenite grey colour, whereas the Euro-spec will have a glossy yellow body but both will be based on the AMG line with a sports suspension reducing the height by 0.4 inches, and a larger brake system with cross drilled rotors. A final edition badge is attached to the body of the vehicle with additional 18-inch AMG wheels with gloss black accents. The interior of the final edition has leather upholstery which comes in black and silver colour with carbon look leather trim on the headrest and gear selector.
The SLC Final Edition badge - part of the farewell body package!
The AMG SLC 43 is going to be available to the American market in the sun yellow colour. Even though it’s bigger, it takes a leaf from the smaller 1996 SLK version when the SLC 300 was initially launched. All other exterior features are the same as found on the final edition of SLC 300 including for the front splitter, intake fins, fender strakes, and the rear fascia while giving the 18-inch wheel a black matte colour with yellow trims.
The interior of the SLC Final Edition - nothing short of pure luxury finally!
Though this is the final edition for the roadster, the SL 450 and 550 are still going stronger with luxury versions called the Grand edition in the pipelines. With 19 inches and 20-inch wheels for the front and rear respectively, the Grand edition will also come in Graphite Grey colour and accented with chrome and matte-silver for the front bumper. Tundra Brown Pearl leather and quilted piping in Golden Olive Pearl are featured in the Designo appearance based interiors. Like the AMG SLC 43, it is fitted with a 0.4inch lowering sports suspension as the only mechanical change introduced.
The Grand edition SL 550 - bigger, grander and more luxurious!
Maybe after this whole election brouhaha is over and business resumes, if you think you can afford it, the Grand edition promises a suite of luxurious treat that will surely be worth two roadsters for you.
SL500 interiors - simply worth much more than any sports luxury can give!
Body badge for the SL 550 is simply seductive!
On a final note, the SLC 300 though will be missed especially as it has set the trends in the luxury sports car category, the likes of BMW Z3 and Porsche Boxster will definitely be a suitable replacement and with other German products available. With the Boxster Z4 being redesigned for the 2019 year to become the next generation benchmark, and as it forms a duo with the Toyota Supra Coupe, the luxury buyers’ consciousness is still very much alive in these options.
