Getting luxury cars that will fit the rugged Nigerian roads and harsh weather is always difficult for lovers of luxury brands. That's why many car manufacturers go the extra mile to make SUVs and off road sedans with high performance and comfortability as well. The Porsche Cayenne is one of those cars. Since 2002, the German car manufacturer has made this line of four-door off-road vehicles to fit into pretty much any terrain. This year, Nigerians are witnessing the arrival of the third-generation Porsche Cayenne - as it made a grand entrance to the Nigerian automobile market last year,

The popular ones you find on Nigerian roads have been the first and second generations (2002 - 2010 and 2011 - 2018 respectively). But Porsche lovers can now update their collection with the latest version.

An event at the Porsche center in Lagos was held last year to celebrate the event. With critics, media personnel, and fans of the Cayenne on the ground to witness the showcase, the new version definitely met up with expectations. This third-generation Porsche cayenne comes with sleeker styling and compared to previous versions and those of its competitors. There's also an upgraded chassis system and powertrain turbocharged engine, that helps it thrive well on Nigerian roads.

“For me, the new Cayenne’s versatility is truly unique. It is at home on any road, but it is equally ready to explore new terrain. It enjoys a short sprint as much as a long road trip, and the commute to work as much as a lap on the track. It is capable of producing a superb drive experience virtually anywhere, and that is really what sets the Cayenne apart from any other SUV. We’re very excited to be welcoming it to Nigeria today,” Anurag Shah, General manager of the Porsche center in Lagos said.

He also added with how popular the Cayenne has become in Nigeria, this third-generation will be endeared by many.

Lots of auto experts at the event said that the extra upgrades this third-generation Porsche Cayenne comes with will give drivers the feeling of being in an SUV, a sports car, and a moving home. There are driver assistance features, navigation systems, and more that offers the driver comfort and safety at the same time.

The third-generation Porsche Cayenne maintains the same standard design the Cayenne models are known for but now has a sporty and nice SUV feel. It's also more spacious than the previous versions. You can notice the added height and length as well. The bonnet is also slightly bigger, with much better-contoured headlamps. The boot (the rear) is wider and can obviously contain more cargo than it'd predecessors could. There's an added space of about 100 liters. The side windows are narrower and gives it a sleek sportier look.

The cockpit (driver's area) doesn't have buttons and switches littered all over the place. There's also enough leg room for the driver and the passenger. There's a 12.3-inch touch screen display on the dashboard that helps you with navigation and safety driving. The driver assistance and safety systems are also intuitive to improve connectivity and of course, safety.

Improved performance

Asides being sporty and comfortable, the latest cayenne is also lightweight. It saves over 60kg as compared to the previous. Most times, this translates to being a faster and efficient - if all other standard compartments remain the same. There's also a 4D chassis control that helps boost your driving as it's synced to other relevant systems in your vehicle. This version also comes with much larger tyres, an option of adding a rear axle steering, Porsche surface coated brakes and mixed tyre configurations.

The turbocharged engine also puts out as much as 340 horsepower, as compared to the 300 hp the second generation has. The third-generation Porsche Cayenne's engine has 6 cylinders, 450 NM of torque, and an option of speeding almost 250 kilometers per hour in 6 seconds - if the sport chrono package is installed. How fast can that be? Before you answer, there's more. There's a cayenne turbo that is considered the most improved of the third generation. It has almost 800 NM of torque, puts out almost 600 hp and it's an 8 cylinder engine. Under 4 seconds, it can go 286 km/h when the sport chrono package is installed.

The third-generation Porsche Cayenne, the Cayenne Turbo and the Cayenne S are all currently available for sale at the Porsche center in Lagos. They are sold for 47.9 million naira, 91 million naira and 55.1 million naira respectively. With a few more hundreds of thousands, you can get certain customizations to suit your style and even have the unit delivered to you wherever you are in Nigeria.
