You don’t want to miss this exclusive first drive review of the super luxury 2020 Range Rover Evoque SUV. Check it out here now before it even hits Nigeria!

Quote anywhere for claiming that even after over a decade since the debut of the Range Rover model, the new 2020 Range Rover Evoque is still looking sleek and audacious among all other compact SUV in its class that has awkward styling.

Gerry McGovern, the Land Rover Design chief confirms this claim by revealing that the Evoque is the first Land Rover SUV to ever sell primarily because of its styling alone.

1. Range Rover Evoque 2020 exterior styling upgrades

The body panels on this 2020 Evoque are all new, yet it is still instantly recognizable as an Evoque SUV. This is impressive despite the new opportunity the model has with the all-new platform afforded by Land Rover’s very own Premium Transverse Architecture. A structure that is mainly spurred by the pressing need to actually accommodate an electrified powertrain which eventually includes a plug-in hybrid as well.

Taking a closer look at this new Evoque, you will immediately notice its evolution from its now slimmer taillamp and headlamp units, as well as its flush-mounted door, handles too that were clearly borrowed from the Range Rover Velar SUV.

The new 2020 Range Rover Evoque – Sleek and audacious in its own class

This model has undoubtedly been a back-to-back hit for the brand globally, as it's been selling over 100,000 units annually, in part due to its urban-friendly design and size. Most buyers really don’t want to see this SUV get larger in size, so even though the wheelbase of the 2020 Evoque has now been stretched nicely by 0.8 inches, the overall footprint still remains the same.

The new 2020 Range Rover Evoque now gets an increased rear-seat knee room as it features additional space now available between its axles. It also gets redesigned mounts for its front seats, allowing for more space at the backseat for its passengers to freely wiggle their toes anytime.

Don’t be surprised that a 6-foot passenger can now fit conveniently behind a driver of similar size even though the new Evoque still isn’t as spacious as the Volvo XC40 or the BMW X1. The new Evoque also manages to pack a redesigned rear suspension that now yields more cargo space of 21.5 cubic feet right behind the rear seats of the SUV and 50.5 cubic feet when the seats are folded.

2. Range Rover Evoque 2020 interior: a minimalism practitioner?

The interior of this new Evoque is minimalist and modern. Its central touchscreen is pretty much similar to that featured in the Range Rover Velar and with a 60-40 spilt it affords dual functionality. Just below it, you will see the high-gloss centre stack that features completely touch-sensitive buttons except for the volume knob, some other 2 large dials that are primarily for controlling fan speed and temperature.

You won’t find any other physical switches, knobs or buttons. The new Evoque’s virtual instrument cluster even offers a lot more screen-based sort of experience. Its instrument panel really angles so sharply such that the touchscreen at the centre can even be electrically tilted in a way that it will be more slightly upright to make room for easier reach and less glare.

It also gets a new Eucalyptus fabric that is made from series of recycled plastic bottles which you might not really find to be rich-feeling as normal leather ones but it will surely assuage your conscience of green earth. Although, a wool-blend fabric and leather options as also available.

3. Range Rover Evoque 2020 power & features

You get a JLR 2.0L 4-Cylinder turbocharged Ingenium gasoline engine. The model “P250” produces 246hp and 269 lb-ft of torque, while the model “P300” produces 269hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The names are by the way derived from the respective engines’ horsepower metric ratings.

The 2020 Range Rover Evoque also debuts the brand’s first ever 48V mild hybrid system too. This allows the vehicle’s engine to be shut off whenever you are braking at a below 11 mph a low speed, and it also smooths out engine restart as well.

With any of the engine options, the mated transmission is set as an all-new 9-speed automatic transmission which replaces the previous 9-speed gearbox.
