1. Overview of 2020 Jeep Gladiator

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a rugged all-steel midsize convertible pick-up manufactured by the Jeep division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, US. The Gladiator was the basis for the first post-war United States Army trucks designed for civilian use and adapted to military use. The 2020 Gladiator comes in two main variants, the Overland, and the Rubicon. The main difference is that the Rubicon is a convertible, and packs a smaller unch in towing ability.

The Gladiator shares the same platform with the Wrangler JL (fourth generation), which has been Jeep’s first pickup truck since the Comanche was discontinued in 1992. This vehicle was introduced at the LA Auto Show on November 28, 2018.

2. Overview of 2019 Toyota 4Runner

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner belongs to the fifth-generation of Toyota 4Runners which is a compact or mid-size sport utility vehicle produced by Japanese manufacturer – Toyota.

The 2019 Toyota 4Runner is a rebranded version from the original Toyota 4Runner which was a pickup truck with a fiberglass shell over the bed, having experienced noteworthy independent growth into a cross between a compact and a midsize SUV. The 2019 Toyota 4Runner is equipped for rock-crawling, dirt cruising, etc, just like the Jeep Gladiator. It is also noted for being a rugged, safe car as this family found out with gratitude.

So, this duo shares nearly the same type features except for the fact that the 4Runner is a hatchback of sorts. Taking a close look at their dimensions, the Jeep Gladiator looks longer than the Toyota 4Runer; the Jeep Gladiator also, is not all that wide like the 4Runner but comes with higher dimensions in other features like height, wheelbase, passenger volume and curb weight.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator and 2019 Toyota 4Runner share few resemblances on the interior, having the same seat capacity. The Jeep Gladiator has a slightly better passenger space of 104 cubic feet in the first and second rows of seats as opposed to the 4Runner’s 96 cubic feet, yet with a cabin that makes it look more of a compact midsize SUV.

Also, the 2019 Toyota 4Runner comes with a 6.1inch center touchscreen interface more familiar to any SUV driver with automatically arranged controls while the 2020 Jeep Gladiator has an 8.4inch Uconnect touchscreen interface, having the go-ahead for resources and electronics from Fiat Chrysler.

Talking of power channels and connectivity choices; both vehicles have them in abundance e.g. Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple Carplay, but with the Jeep Gladiator having a lot more and newer designs of these features that other trucks don’t.

Choosing the 2019 Toyota 4Runner’s third-row seat gives you 9 cubic feet of space behind with a squared-off cargo hold making it easy to haul large or bulky items with a hatch opening for big, wide and enhanced utilities, whereas the Jeep Gladiator has a 5-foot bed with adjustable tie-downs, an in-bed power outlet, three-stage tailgate that you can lock to a half-way down position.

Let us look at the safety features of these cars.

Features of 2020 Jeep Gladiator:

  • Comes with a blind-spot monitor w/cross-traffic alert that warns the driver of other cars approaching out of the driver’s view while reversing;
  • Has red parking sensors that give audio alerts when approaching objects from the rear, that in turn helps to minimize low-speed bumps in parking scenarios.
  • It also comes with collision warning plus that alerts the driver about an imminent forward collision which can apply the brakes automatically if the driver takes no action in time.

Features of 2019 Toyota 4Runner:

  • It has a smart stop sensor that reduces engine power when the brake and gas pedals are applied at the same time.
  • Has a downhill assist control that advances maneuvering controls during descent on steep/ slippery surfaces;
  • Comes with a brake assist that applies improved brake pressure when it senses a panic-braking situation.


Both of these cars do not bear a close similarity in interior features but are nonetheless quite adequate

Speaking engine and performance specs, the 2019 Toyota 4Runner’s runs on a slightly higher engine than the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The Gladiator’s transmission and fuel consumption are slightly higher than that of the 4Runner, giving the latter the edge in fuel economy.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is priced from ₦12.6 million to ₦16.2 million while the 2019 Toyota Runner cost a bit higher, from ₦12.9 million to 17 million.
