Last week, Hyundai set a global record in the automobile world by developing the first Active Shift Control (ASC) transmission for hybrid cars. A technology, which the South Korean automaker claims reduces gearshift timing by 30%, improves fuel economy and driving experience and extends the lifespan of the transmission.
Based on the breakthrough, Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid featuring the new Active Shift Control transmission. And just as stated above, the new technology has been created to lessen the gear shift time by 30%. This is made possible with the use of a Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) to regulate the electric motor installed on the hybrid, to bring the engine's rotational speed and transmission together.
Naijauto gathered that the hybrid car is built on the current generation of the Sonata model which was debuted in March this year. However, there are some subtle changes which include rear spoiler lip, cross-hole cascading grille, and alloy wheel designed to improve the car's aerodynamic efficiency.

Another significant element featured on the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is the solar roof panel which prevents the battery of the hybrid car from discharging and in turn, increases the traveling distance by recharging the battery. Hyundai says, when the battery is charged for 6 hours daily, the driving range will be increased each year by 1,300km (about 808 miles).
The hybrid model came with digital key function which enables drivers to control several systems inside the vehicle with their smartphones
The hybrid car is equipped with a 2.0-liter Smartstream GDi HEV engine that's connected to a 6-speed hybrid transmission. The car engine delivers 150 hp (152 PS) and a maximum torque of 188 Nm(139 lb-ft). Its electric motor produces 51 hp(38 kW/52 PS) and a torque of 205 Nm (151 lb-ft). When combined, both give 192 hp. The car manufacturer stated that the fuel economy is 20 km/l when it's fitted with 16-inch wheels. And when it's running a 17-inch alloy wheel, the fuel economy is 19.1 km/l.
