Mazda (Mazda Motor Corporation) is a Japanese multinational carmaker headquartered in Fuchū, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. The company partnered with NSU, a German company and got started with the limited-production Cosmo Sport of 1967 and has continued with the Pro Mazda Championship until the present day. The Japanese automaker has become the sole manufacturer of Wankel-type motors for the auto market.
Mazda began to export its cars soon after this. The Japanese automaker started its operation in Canada and the USA in 1968 and 1970, respectively and witnessed great success in both two markets. From 1974 to 2015, Mazda partnered with Ford Motor Company due to the financial problems during the 1960s. In the 1980s, Ford-badged vehicles served as the substitutes for many models in the lineup, particularly in the Asia-Pacific markets.
In May 2015, Mazda signed an agreement with Toyota to create a “long-term partnership”, which would witness Toyota sourcing fuel-efficient SkyActiv petrol and diesel motor technologies from Mazda and Mazda sourcing hydrogen fuel cell systems from Toyota.
