Some Irate youths in Zamfara state recently staged a very violent protest during which they reportedly destroyed vehicles and blocked the Gusau – Kaura Namoda highway. Several eyewitnesses narrated that the angry youths occupied this busy road during the early hours of Monday, May 31 to protest the rising level of bandits’ attacks on their communities.

Press reports claim that a certain commuter who got caught up in the middle of the protest said that the irate youths blocked the road along Kaura Junction and violently began destroying vehicles. The angry youths were said to have been condemning the currently rising spate of bandit attacks and kidnappings being experienced by the people of their communities. It was also reported that many Zamfara state residents in recent times have found themselves living in fear of bandits that are terrorizing them.

According to press records, more than 20 persons were allegedly killed by bandits that recently attacked 2 LGAs and 5 communities in Zamfara state just a few weeks ago. Media sources listed the attacked communities as Riwoji, Torawa, Donroyi, Rigiya, and Gabaken – all located in Kaura - Namoda and Zurmi LGAs. As a matter of fact, Ibrahim Dosara – the Zamfara State Commissioner of information recently confirmed during a press conference that more than 2,619 persons lost their lives to bandits’ attacks between the year 2011 and the year 2019.
