The shortlist of the top 3 cars contesting for the Wolrd Car of the Year has been announced. You will be amazed at the last 3 cars still in the race!

Naijauto recently brought you a report about the Peugeot 208 emerging as the 2020 European Car of the Year. Indeed, it was a great achievement, but there is a title bigger than that. It is the World Car of the Year. To break it down, the winner of this award is the overall best car all over the world for the year. Sounds huge, right? It is.

Who do you think will win the coveted award?

A World Car of the Year (WCOTY) committee was set up, consisting of eighteen automobile experts to find a car deserving of this coveted title. From a long list of cars competing in the category, the jury arrived at a shortlist consisting of 10 cars including the following:

  • Kia Soul EV
  • Hyundai Sonata
  • Kia Telluride
  • Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
  • Mazda3
  • Mazda CX-30
  • Mercedes-Benz CLA
  • Mercedes-Benz GLB
  • Volkswagen Golf
  • Volkswagen T-Cross

With the prize available to just one car, the jury still had a long way to go. They went back to the drawing board and continued the quest for the best car. After a long screening process, they have arrived at the top three cars gunning for the ultimate prize. The cars that made the shortlist are:

  • Mazda 3
  • Peugeot 208
  • Porsche Taycan

The 2020 European Car of the Year, Peugeot 208, is among the top 3 cars gunning for the number one spot. There is no guarantee that it will be the eventual winner. It is totally up to the expert jury to decide.

Initially, the announcement of the top 3 2020 World Car of the Year was to be made at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but it was canceled due to COVID-19.
