A Vehicle Inspector Officer (VIO) identified as Ahmed Bello has been killed by an angry mob in Niger State.
The incident which happened on Thursday in Mariga LGA, Minna was disclosed by the Niger Police Command.

While narrating the unfortunate incident to local media, Niger Police Commissioner, Adamu Usman said,
The VIO sighted 3 Fulani youths named Juli Musa, Malami Mohammed and Dawa Ali riding on an unregistered bike and flagged the motorcycle down but they refused to obey the VIO officer's order to stop.
Naijauto gathered that he chased the 3 of them and while running away, their motorcycle ran into an incoming trailer which has the registration number, FKJ 512 XW. The trailer crushed the 3 youths who according to reports, died on the spot.

Realizing the gravity of what had happened, the officer took to his heels and ran for safety to Kampani Bobi Police outstation but the irate mob caught up with him and lynched him.
Usman added that more police officers from Kontagora Division have been dispatched to restore normalcy to the village.
He also cautioned the general public to stop taking laws into their own hands but wait for the police to take action.
He said,
"We will not tolerate any act capable of bringing confusion to the state, as concrete security measures have since been put in place to guarantee peaceful coexistence among residents."
The Commissioner warned the villagers that any individual or group found to be in connection with the lynching of the VIO will face arrest and prosecution.
