A shocking incident happened this week in Kebbi State and some policemen lost their lives in it. Press reports claimed that a vehicle being chased by Customs officers rammed into a bullion van in Kebbi and killed 3 policemen. No fewer than six persons, including the three police officers, were burnt to death in the multiple road crash that happened on Tuesday, September 27. The heartbreaking incident reportedly happened along the Birnin-Kebbi-Argungu road in Kebbi State. From the traffic reports getting to us, this unfortunate incident could be blamed on a vehicle smuggling petroleum products from Birnin Kebbi. While fleeing from Nigeria Customs personnel, the vehicle rammed into a bank bullion van, causing havoc on other vehicles and a bike as well.

SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson of Kebbi State police has confirmed this incident to newsmen in a statement released in the state capital on Wednesday, 28th of September. He said that the accident occurred when operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service on patrol from Birnin Kebbi allegedly chased a Carina E car that was conveying jerricans of petrol products. SP Abubakar explained further that the Carina car crashed into a bullion van after reaching Jeda Village. The explosion from the collision caused a fire outbreak that engulfed three other cars in the area. In total, 5 vehicles and a bike were razed by the fire explosion. Unfortunately, the inferno also claimed the lives of three policemen and three other people. Abubakar said five people, including 3 police officers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were taken for medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi.

The Kebbi police spokesperson mentioned that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, sent his condolences to the families of the deceased accident victims. it was also confirmed that the commissioner visited the accident scene. The Police Commissioner assured members of the public that the force would conduct a thorough investigation to get to the root of the incident.
