In some recent cases, drivers have been made to forcefully pay the thugs, who threaten to attack them if they fail to do so. One incident that was witnessed last Monday by a journalist around Freedom Park was when a middle-aged man in an SUV was forced to give out money to a hoodlum in traffic gridlock. Initially, the man refused but later gave out his cash when the hoodlum brought out a weapon. Surprisingly, the journalist confirmed that police officers with their vans were stationed not too far from where the shocking incident took place.
Another victim of this frequent Lagos traffic robbery revealed how she escaped unscathed despite the presence of policemen in the area. According to her, she was on her way back from an event in Lagos Island when she encountered these hoodlums around Alapere Bridge inward 7up. The victim is a presenter at one of the most popular media houses in Nigeria. According to her narration, she was already warned of the unholy activities that happen in the area but felt safe when she spotted police officers in the area. To her utmost surprise, she was flanked by two men who continuously kept knocking on her car's windows. While she was attempting to find her way out to escape, one of the guys broke her window and the glass shards were all over her body. She was able to escape with the help of other road users who got a hint of what was going on in the traffic.
CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Police PRO in Lagos State has actually confirmed these crime reports. He stated that the police command in the state is working towards curbing these traffic menaces by increasing security and apprehending these criminals in their hideouts. He added that the commissioner of police has ordered the deployment of all tactical units from the command to ensure that security is provided in every corner of the state. Meanwhile, in a recent event that went viral on social media, a motorist was attacked and robbed in Traffic around Surulere in Lagos.
