Onitsha: Angry mob set truckload of salt on fire for crushing cart pusher to death

The pusher was a popular in the community which caused rage by the neighborhood who set the truck on fire. Fortunately, the driver escaped the truck timely.

According to the latest report, tragedy struck around 9:55 am Tuesday in upper Iweka, Onitsha-Owerri Road, where a truck fully loaded with salt ran over a cart pusher, crushing him to death.

Momentarily, the truck driver fled the scene when his truck crushed the cart pusher to death. Kamal Musa, who is the Public Education Officer of the FRSC in the state, while confirming the tragedy revealed that the truck without a registration number crushed the wheelbarrow pusher to death.

From the eyewitnesses’ reports, the truck driver was driving at high speed when it went off its lane and crushed the cart pusher. The deceased was a popular person in the community and his untimely death didn’t go down well with the youths in the area, who retaliated by setting the truck on fire.

The driver was lucky to escape to the wrath of jungle justice as he fled the scene after the accident. Such wasn't the case for a truck driver and his boy conductor, who was lynched to death by an angry mob for killing school children in Ebonyi.

Musa further revealed that a rescue team from the Federal Road Safety Corps was deployed to the scene of the incident. However, their activities were cut short by the angry mob, who reportedly went away with the corpse of the cart pusher.

Andrew Kumapayi, who is the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra, warned truck drivers and other road users to adhere to stipulated speed limits especially in built-up areas in other to prevent the reoccurrence of such unfortunate incident.
