The ongoing internet hitch being experienced all over the country has affected travellers hoping to book trips online

The current internet connection glitch being experienced across the country is proving to be a challenge to prospective travelers who opted for online booking of their trips.

Information gathered by Naijauto says the internet hitch was due to damage to the submarine cable systems sited in the European high sea, which affected the West African Cable System (WACS) that are providing data to Nigeria market and some West African users.

The telecommunication industry in the country was thrown into difficulty last week when subscribers couldn't browse the internet.

Financial Institutions were also hit by the internet hitch as they use the internet to facilitate their services.

MTN subscribers were affected the most but the telecommunication firm, through its Twitter handle, said, the issue has been resolved.

Notwithstanding, some subscribers are still having difficulties with accessing the internet.

This ongoing development is stalling the online transactions of travelers intending to book their trips before travel dates.

The local correspondent who visited Utako, the Abuja terminal of major transport service providers observed the influx of travelers who were forced to come down to the office to book and pay for their trip after experiencing the internet hitch earlier on.

The office of transport service providers like ABC, Young Shall Grow, Chisco and God is Good are located at Utako, Abuja.

A traveler identified as Chinwe who was seen at one of the transport service offices said that she was to embark on a trip on Wednesday but couldn't because she was unable to book for the trip online on Tuesday.

She said,

I had to come all the way from my house with my baby to book the trip against tomorrow (Thursday) because I could not do so online yesterday (Tuesday).

The Internet was so slow and even when I was able to get to the website the transaction could not go through. It’s frustrating,

While describing the situation, some transport service personnel said,

In a normal situation, you will not see many people coming around to the office to book for their trips over the counter; they usually do that online.

But we have been having a lot of people coming to do so since last week

The West African Cable System (WACS) is reported to be connecting 14 countries that are on two continents.
