Trailer drivers had enough of alleged extortion by the Presidential Task Force in Apapa, and stood up to them! The fight led to loss of a life and vehicles! Check details!

Things got out of hands as trailer drivers engaged officials of the Presidential Task Force in a fight in the Apapa area of Lagos State on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. This is coming after several allegations labelled against the task force team by motorists in the area of their involvement in bribery and extortion.

The confrontation was reported to have started around the entry gate of the transit park for trucks. The arena was set on fire by agitated trailer drivers amidst gunshots fired by the task force team.

Naijauto gathered that the commotion led to the killing of an unidentified person. The death had fueled the temper of the trailer drivers as they proceeded to set vehicles on site ablaze including those belonging to the police.

The Presidential Task Force was set up by the presidency to restore order in the area following the chaos the place had become infamous for. Gridlock in the area had given rise to vices such as traffic robbery, drug peddling and environmental pollution among others. The clash was as a result of built up tension over alleged extortion by the task force officials that had been going on for long.
