It was a day the residents of Arue-Uromi, Esan-North East Local Government Area of Edo State would want to forget in a hurry when a Mercedes-Benz car with learner driver sign crushed six children to death last Friday.
Tragedy struck when a Mercedes car with learner sign ran into 6 children in Edo, killing them on the spot
According to report, the deceased, 4 girls and 2 boys, said to be siblings were playing football when a Mercedes-Benz car appeared from nowhere, swerved and crushed them to death on the spot in an attempt to avoid a pothole.

From another eyewitness’s account, who gave a different narration of the incident, said the children were crossing the road when the car ploughed into them at high speed. As a result of this unfortunate road accident, the residents of the community were provoked to the extent that they burnt the Mercedes-Benz that killed the children and also blocked the road.

This tragic incident was confirmed by Henry Benamaisia, who happens to be the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Edo State. From the look of things, it seems the driver fled the scene, knowing fully well what would have happened to him, especially in the hands of the angered residents.
Similarly, barely three months ago, the police condemned the barbaric act carried out by some villagers when five schoolchildren were crushed to death by a truck conveying water at Onu-Nworie Egu Village, Oshiri in Onicha Local Government in Ebonyi State. The truck driver and his boy assistant were mobbed to death by angry villagers.
