We cannot begin to overemphasize here on Naijauto the importance of safe driving. Most road accidents are caused by reckless driving as a result of overspeeding. A lot of lives have been lost to impatient drivers who are eager to break the speed limit and other traffic rules to get to their destination. Just recently, 7 people lost their lives in a ghastly auto crash that occurred on the Bode-Saadu-Ilorin Expressway in the Moro LGA of Kwara State. The FRSC in Kwara State confirmed that this horrific incident was caused by excessive speeding.
Most fatal road accidents are caused by excessive speeding, which is as bad as drunk driving
According to traffic reports, the recent incident in Kwara happened on Tuesday, 12th of October 2021. The incident involved a Toyota "Hummer Bumper" with registration number ZAR 600 XY. Apart from the seven people that were killed in this crash, the remaining 12 out of 19 occupants in the bus were inflicted with varying degrees of injuries.
Jonathan Owoade, who happens to be the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State, confirmed the details of this tragic event by revealing that it was difficult to give first aid treatment to the accident victims since it happened around 4 am on Tuesday. He said overspeeding was responsible for the accident. Owoade however urged motorists to desist from night journeys. According to him, fatigue is mostly associated with night driving, which could affect the passengers as well. He believes it is often difficult to get help at night especially during an emergency. The FRSC boss disclosed that the injured victims have been taken by officers from the Bode Saadu Police Station to nearby hospitals for treatment. He added that FRSC officers took the corpses to the morgue at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Owoade noted that the personal belongings of these victims have been handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, we will continue to re-iterate the reasons why it is important to desist from overspeeding. Watch the clip below and see what happens to you when you exceed the proper speed limit:
