A traffic official in Kano has been crushed to death by a hit and run motorist. He was trying to remove the car number plate when driver sped off. Read more!

A Kano Road Traffic Agency official named Tijani Adamu has been killed by a hit and run driver who was trying to evade an arrest on Airport Road.

An eyewitness said the incident happened when Adamu tried to arrest the driver for violating traffic rules. To stop the driver from escaping, Adamu was said to have forcefully entered the driver's car and demanded that he drive to their office located at Club Road. The motorist resisted the order.

When the driver wouldn't budge, Adamu the official alighted from the car and went to dismount the driver's plate number in front of the car. And while he was removing it, the driver zoomed off, crushing the KAROTA official.

Passersby and other KAROTA officials quickly moved to action and rushed Adamu to a nearby hospital. On getting to the hospital, the doctor on call pronounced him dead on arrival.

The incident was confirmed by the agency's PRO, Nabilusi Kofa Na'sa, who said that the police have been notified of the incident and have begun a search for the fleeing driver so that he can be brought to justice.

The 27-year-old deceased official, Tijani Adamu, has been buried according to Islamic rites.
