It is quite saddening that some violent people often start chaos whenever someone is knocked down by a vehicle in Nigeria. This phenomenon was repeated this week when Traders and Okada riders clashed in Abuja after a tanker crushed a woman to death. The chaotic clash that followed the tanker incident resulted in the death of about eight other persons. Several shops were also set ablaze when the fight escalated to a bloody one.
8 persons were feared dead when traders and Okada riders clashed in Abuja this week following a tanker accident
According to press reports, this confusing incident happened at the Dei-Dei International Timber market in Abuja. The clash between the traders and Okada riders is said to have been ignited by an initial tanker accident. Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the fight started after a tanker crushed a woman to death in the area. It was reported that the woman was being conveyed by a commercial motorcycle (Okada) when she got crushed. Her death was blamed on the Okada rider carrying her and that accusation sparked outrage from other riders in the area. This was the main reason why the chaotic fight broke out between Okada Riders and traders in the Dei-Dei timber market.
