You will be thrilled when you see the statistics showing the number of cars and engines that Toyota produced in North America for just 2018 alone. See it here!

It is undeniable that Toyota Motor Company produces a large number of vehicles yearly, as a matter of fact, if you check out our massive listings of cars for sale in Nigeria here on Naijauto.com, you will be amazed how Toyota takes the lead. Toyota is such a popular brand in Nigeria just as it is in other countries all over the world.

They are well known for not just the quality of their vehicles, but also for the affordability. It is very hard not to find a Toyota vehicle at any corner of even rural areas in Nigeria talk less of the urban areas. Out of every 5 cars on a Nigerian road at any point in time, you would most likely find at least one Toyota among them.

That’s how popular Toyota is in Nigeria and even Africa as a whole. But, what about North America?

This car manufacturer with a market capitalization of around $199 billion (₦72 trillion) is definitely one of the richest among the world’s top automobile production companies.

We were totally thrilled on realizing that Toyota recorded a total of about 1,935,230 vehicles built at its assembly plants in North America for the year 2018 alone. We will provide screenshot images of the statistics and breakdown just below in this article. But, before then, if we merge this new statistic together with existing records, it will make a total of over 38 million vehicles produced by Toyota in North America alone since the year 1986.

It is common for the Toyota Motor Company to be associated with the following philosophy: “To build where they sell and buy where they build."

When mentioning the key driving forces for the company’s 2018 production, they emphasized the strong customer demands especially for SUVs and trucks, low prices of fuel, as well as general continued stability in the economy as a whole.

Here are the words of the Toyota North America Chief Administrative officer for the Corporate Resources and Manufacturing Department – Chris Reynolds:

“Every part and every vehicle that rolls off the line reflects our commitment to safety, quality, value and, above all, our passion for exceeding customer expectations,”

“Our ongoing success is due to the hard work and dedication of team members at our 14 manufacturing plants in North America.”

It is even expected that Toyota’s 15th manufacturing plant will be opened in Huntsville, Alabama before the end of 2021. The company is truly not taking the North America by a joke, they are seriously investing and planning to expand for more production in this particular region. This 2021 plant is actually planned to be a joint venture worth $1.6 billion with Mazda. This proposed plant will employ 4,000 and be of a 300,000 capacity by their plan. Toyota also plans to build over 150,00 Corolla with its investment worth of $800,000.

By record, Toyota employs over 47,000 people directly. And in their North America branches, they produce 13 models which include; Yaris iA and Yaris, Lexus ES 350, Tundra, Tacoma, Sienna, Sequoia, RAV 4, Highlander, Corolla, Camry, and Avalon.

We are though, hoping that Toyota could possibly consider Africa in their future plans and probably build more assembly plants in Africa especially Nigeria. However, we cannot deny the fact that lots of challenges would hold them back due to an increased cost of maintenance, electricity and road conditions in major African nations.
