In the past weeks, motorists in Lagos have been going through avoidable hardship as they ply the Oshodi-Apapa expressway on linking to Iyana-Isolo as a result of the terrible gridlock on the road. This is caused by certain parts of the road that are damaged. The bad portions are right around Charity bus stop and Toyota bus stop.
No day passes without traffic on that road. It’s quite common to see the traffic stretch from Oshodi all the way down to Charity bus stop.
Gridlocks near bus stops in Nigeria are a common scene with drivers
The crazy traffic at Toyota bus stop isn’t only as a result of the bad portion of the road, but also due to the indiscriminate crossing by pedestrians who have no other choice but to do so, as the government is yet to make provision for a pedestrian bridge for their use. With the popular Ladipo market where auto parts are sold situated in that location, the thousands of people who visit the market on a daily basis have to cross the road.

Speaking on the issue, a civil servant indentified as Layi Taiyelolu expressed his opinion about the situation, saying it’s unfortunate. “One would expect that a busy highway of this magnitude would be free of any hitch to free ride. But little problems are not fixed until it becomes a major nightmare.
“The pothole under the bridge started as a small dent but it has widened to become a crater. One thing I know is that if there was a quick response, it would not have led to a big problem of causing severe traffic experienced daily,” he lamented.
Once an accident occurs, the entire road was blocked with vehicles
Stating that government hasn’t abandoned the road, an official of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Housing said that the road is among the projects being executed in the rehabilitation of the Oshodi-airport road project. He further revealed that the project is done in various stages, and would be ready soon.
