Chinese battery supplier CATL confirms that Tesla’s “crazy” million-mile battery is now good to go
The overall life span of EV batteries is definitely one of many reasons why skeptics are still asking if it will be possible to use electric cars in Nigeria? Fortunately, the story is about to take a new turn now with the success of the Million-mile battery.
In a recent Bloomberg press interview; Zeng Yuqun – the CEO of CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd) made a bold disclosure that the company is ready to immediately begin mass production of the Million-mile battery as soon as any automotive company places an order. According to the CEO, this new Million-mile battery can last up to 16 years and power an electric car for approximately 1.24 million miles or 2 million kilometers before needing a replacement. And the best part is that it only requires 10% extra cost over the existing batteries that the company makes.
CATL is a 9-year old battery Chinese manufacturing company that is currently standing tall as the largest EV battery manufacturer in the world. It has a wide customer base that includes top automakers like Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda, Daimler, Volvo, and Tesla. As a matter of fact, the company recently signed a multi-billion-dollar deal with Swedish luxury automaker, Volvo, and also, the battery maker is building a plant in Germany where it will provide 70% of all BMW’s battery needs.
