Naijauto feels that the spate of increased accidents in the country is one that needs urgent attention to curtail the causes as well as to preserve the lives of the people. Another accident has been recorded with at least 7 people confirmed dead on the spot of the accident on Wednesday morning. The accident involved a kerosene-laden tanker and traders at the Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha, Anambra state.
The said tanker had rammed into the traders knocking down some of the traders in the process. Haruna Mohammed, a Nigerian Police Command spokesperson confirmed this incident in a statement issued on Wednesday. He stated that the truck had knocked down 19 people after the driver lost control of the tanker. According to Haruna:
“Police patrol team attached to CPS Onitsha visited the scene and rushed victims to Toronto Hospital Onitsha, where Seven (7) persons comprising of six males and one woman whose identities are yet to be ascertained were confirmed dead by the medical doctor.”
The Police spokesperson further supplemented the story saying that the bodies of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue where they await the post-mortem examination, while the other 12 people who sustained injuries of varying degrees are in the hospital receiving treatments.
The tanker rammed into the market and knocked down 19 people!
The driver of the truck, a 35-year-old man junior Agari byname has been arrested by the Police and the truck involved has also been recovered from the site of the incident while the Nigerian Police commence a full investigation into the cause of the incidence.
The pictures from the scene of the incidence have been flying all around the internet with very disturbing images ranging from scattered personal effects of the victims to smashed vehicles, albeit being all amateur images.
This heartbreaking news for Naijauto comes on the heel of very worrisome news of collapsed building where school children and other individuals have been trapped, and some others have lost their lives while some are equally nursing injuries of varying degrees.
