28 year-old sentenced to 2 years imprisonment for stealing car parts in Lagos

A car parts robber in Lagos has bagged two years jail term for vandalizing a Toyota Venza twice, trying to steal car parts. Read details below!

A 28-year-old man, identified as Festus Obaro, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Isolo magistrate court in Lagos State for stealing.

Reports gathered by Naijauto say Festus was first brought to trial on August 6, 2019, before a magistrate court led by Teluwo, on a three-count charge bordering on an attempt to commit felony, stealing and intent to commit stealing. These offenses all contradict the criminal law of Lagos, 2015 and also punishable under sections 280,287,411 and 320(2) of the law.


Car crimes like that committed by Festus attract a term of imprisonment

And having confessed to the offenses which he pleaded guilty to, Festus was finally jailed for two years.

The prosecutor, Inspect. Oje Uagbale told the court that Festus was caught while trying to break into a Toyota Venza for the second time, to steal its parts, on August 4. The car was said to be owned by one Prince Efue who resides at 24, Godwin Omonua street, Isolo.On August 30, Festus and others who were still at large had previously stolen the rubber carrier of the Venza worth ₦35,000.

Inspector Uagbale explained that,

"Having jumped the fence into the compound the second time to vandalize the vehicle, an alarm was raised by Efue which made Obaro jumped back to the next compound. From there he was caught and handed over to police officers at Isolo Police Division. He however pleaded guilty and confessed to have stolen the vehicle part in his previous attempt."

The magistrate presiding over Festus' case, Olufunmilayo Teluwo, sentenced him to two years imprisonment without any option for fine.
