Robber on Lagos-Ibadan arrested while attacking commuters

So far, 2019 has been quite a year. It was reported to us here on Naijauto, that an arrest has been made on a suspected robber, who was trying to rid commuters plying Lagos-Ibadan Expressway of their valuables. This arrest was carried out by the Ogun State Police Command last Thursday.

A lot of robbers take advantage of the traffic gridlock along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to rid travelers of their possessions

According to the statement made by Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun State Police PRO, it was revealed that the suspect, identified as Blessing Adedeji, a member of a robbery syndicate, was sighted by the police on duty in the traffic gridlock while carrying out attack with a knife on the occupants of a Toyota Camry car.

The Ogun State Police PRO further disclosed that the suspect had already dispossessed a lady identified as Monsurat Ologundudu of her phone, Tecno Camon-12 worth N48,000 with her purse, containing N3,000. Upon seeing the policemen, the suspect took to his heels. Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t go far before he was chased down and arrested by the police.

Oyeyemi stated:

“The suspect was arrested by policemen on surveillance patrol of Magboro area of the expressway, led by the DPO Ibafo Division, SP Abiodun Ayinde.

“The suspect was sighted by the policemen in the severe traffic congestion occasioned by the construction work going on, attacking the occupants of a Toyota Camry car with knife and [had] succeeded in dispossessing one Monsurat Ologundudu of her Techno Camon-12 phone valued at N48,000 and purse containing cash sum of N3,000.

“On sighting the policemen, he took to his heels but was chased and apprehended.

“The stolen items were recovered from him and released to the owner.”

According to Oyeyemi, he said Cp Kenneth Ebrimson, who is the Commissioner of police in the state, has ordered swift transfer of the arrested suspect for closed investigation at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Some highway robbers also make use of construction works along the expressway to conduct their evils

Speaking on behalf of the Police Commissioner, he assured all road users of adequate security whenever they ply the road.
