Road casualties are rampant! About 83 people have died from road crashes in Edo during the first 5 months of 2019 as stated by the FRSC command. Below is the complete story!

Edo State command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stated that 83 persons died from road crashes in Edo between January 2019 to May 2019.

Naijauto is reported that the statistic was revealed by Mr Anthony Oko, commander of the Corps in the state at the FRSC second quarter retreat organized in the state capital, Benin ,tagged “Corps Visibility, the Basis for Improved Command Performance” for officers of the Corps.

The deaths happened in different routes across the state within the aforementioned period from 112 road crashes. The commander further disclosed that 421 persons involved in the accidents sustained injuries.

Speaking on the frequency of accidents in the state, Oko stated that there had been a decrease in the statistics when compared to the number of road accidents that occurred in the state within the same period last year. This stays in line with FRSC traffic report in Eid-El Kabir period.

Road accidents like this are often deadly

The FRSC official said that the theme discussed at the retreat was in line with a review of activities for the growth of the institution. The retreat would enhance knowledge of its personnel and the execution of assignments with effective strategies.

Oko disclosed that, in line with the commitment of the FRSC to improve performance via visibility, two outposts were opened at Ohusu, a border settlement between Edo and Ondo states and Agbede – Etsako West Local Government Area.

Mr Kehinde Adeleye, Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO) for zone RS 5 which consists of Edo, Anambra and Delta states declared the retreat open, and commended the Corps for its outstanding performance.
