According to reports, Rivers state government notably warned residents of Akpor/Obio LGA and Port Harcourt LGA which are areas currently on lockdown due to confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the areas. In the reports, Paul Nsirim – the Rivers state Commissioner for Information & Technology mentioned in his recent public statement that all vehicles seized for violating the lockdown order will be auctioned by the state government. He also declared that interested buyers or individuals can start looking out for such adverts on any of the national dailies soon.

It was further stated in Paul Nsirim’s statement that a directive has been given to the Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice in Rivers state to auction any vehicle impounded for violating the lockdown order. Below are the precise locations noted in Paul Nsirim’s statement;

  • Rumueme and Mgbuosimini town in Obio/Akpor LGA
  • Ward 20 (Amadi-Ama) part of Port Harcourt LGA

Residents of the above towns and Local Government areas in Rivers state are particularly warned by the state government to desist from flouting the lockdown directive despite currently having confirmed COVID-19 cases.

In times like this, we would suggest that unless you are rated among the top 10 richest men in Nigeria, and so can afford many cars, please do not flout this new government warning if you reside in Rivers State.
