President Buhari has recently flagged off the construction of the 203.8km Kano-Kaduna railway project
According to media reports, President Muhammadu Buhari flagged off the Kano-Kaduna railway project on Thursday, 15th of July 2021. The flag-off ceremony was said to have taken place in Kano State with several dignitaries in attendance including the state governor and the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. Reports claim that the highly-anticipated project is expected to serve as a rail transport link between Abuja (FCT) and Kano as well as Kaduna State.
Believe it or not, the anticipated Zawachiki mega railway station in Kano state will become the “biggest” train station in Nigeria when completed. This enormous train station is attached to the recently flagged off Kano-Kaduna railway project that reportedly costs a whopping ₦493.5 billion ($1.2billion) to construct.

The Kano-Kaduna railway project is expected to not only provide a new transportation means alone but also create employment opportunities in the transport sector for qualified Nigerians. The proposed railway project is also expected to help increase efficiency by decongesting the Lagos port complex. It is also worth mentioning that the newly inaugurated Kano-Kaduna railway project is actually the 3rd segment of the larger Lagos-Kano standard gauge “railway modernization” project.
