Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S are two remarkable electric sports sedans that are currently on top of the segment. Which car is the ultimate though? Check details below!

Several automobile lovers around the world know the indisputable fact that Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S (especially its P100D) are champions of electric sports cars. However, the question of which is the ultimate electric sports car has been open to a lot of recent debate.

For the record, it is important to note that the Tesla Model S has been produced since 2012. So, by the time Mercedes, BMW and Audi will launch their own all-electric premium 4-door GTs, it would have been nearly a decade since Tesla commenced the production of electric cars.

The jury is still out on which of these is the true king of sports electric sedans

Not waiting on Mercedes, BMW and Audi, Porsche started the production of its own electric cars, giving the VW Group, its first-ever electric car to pit against the Tesla Model S. Of course, while the now recalled Audi e-Tron GT is well on its way, which however is not until another twelve months or so due to its recall, we shall focus on the Taycan and how its flagship Turbo S variant, compares to the very best Tesla Model S, specifically, the P100D, in performance.

A meticulous and unbiased comparison of both cars has been done below.

1. Design of Porsche Taycan vs Tesla Model S

The fact that the Tesla Model S has been around for quite some time, gave Porsche all the time and knowledge they needed in designing the Porsche Taycan. So, while the Model S has been and still is a remarkably elegant four-door car, Porsche took its time in designing the Taycan in a unique way that makes it topnotch, elegant and more futuristic. This makes the Taycan more modern and better placed than Tesla’s Model S.

It is thus critical to say that the Taycan has a more sporty presence and feel than the Tesla. This is all thanks to its flat end with the highly contoured wings, a staple of Porsche design. Nonetheless, both models have thick, sculpted rear arches, so it is not like the Model S’ stance is a lot less visually aggressive.

Elegance and style define the interiors of these premium cars

Now, we need to be a bit more patient to know which of the cars provide more comfort or have a better overall onboard tech. Porsche did not go into full details on what we would find in the Taycan, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if the all-round quality is superior in the Porsche Taycan.

The Porsche Taycan dashboard appears to be more driver-focused than theTesla’s; it boasts a 16.8-inch curved gauge cluster display, an optional passenger display and an 8.4-inch touch screen with hepatic feedback for the climate control, seating settings and much more. Meanwhile, the Tesla’s gauge cluster screen measures 12.3 inches, while the main display is a massive 17 inches.

2. Performance of Porsche Taycan vs Tesla Model S

When it comes down to finding the supercar that is quick and off the line, there’s hardly any supercar that is comparable to or better than the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S. However, if you are looking for the one which is the fastest between the two, then the numbers say that the Tesla Model S P100D Performance is still the one to beat, especially following the Tesla Model S beating the Porsche Taycan at Nurburgring. Though the Model S does have bragging rights right now, the difference between the two is not enormous. Check out the specs below:

Comparison of Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S performance
Spec  Porsche Taycan Turbo S  Tesla Model S P100D
Battery power  93.4 kWh  100 kWh,
 Horsepower  616 HP (750 HP w/Overboost)  762 HP
 Acceleration  0-60km in 2.3 sec   0-60km in 2.4 sec
Range on one charge  256 miles (412 km)  345 miles (555km).

While it is expressly clear that both cars can satisfy anyone’s pulling power and speed thirst, the fact that the Model S can cover more distance on a single charge cannot be overlooked, even though the Taycan’s range of 256 miles (412 km) is not in any way dismissible.

These powerful EVs are a lot alike in performance

3. Measurement of Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S

When it comes to size and measurement, both cars stand toe to toe.

Measurement of Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S
Spec  Porsche Taycan Turbo S  Tesla Model S P100D
 Length 4,963 mm (195.4 inches) 4,980 mm (195.9)
 Width 1,966 mm (77.4 inches) 1,964 mm (77.3 inches)
 Wheelbase 2,900 mm (114 inches) 2,960 mm (116.5 inches)
 Cargo space 12.9 cu.ft (82 liters) 26.3 cu.ft (744 liters)

4. Price comparison of Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S

When it comes to price, the Tesla Model S is considerably easier to purchase. The Porsche Taycan has a base MSRP of ($153,310 at market launch), while the Turbo S costs $185,000.

Spec  Porsche Taycan Turbo S  Tesla Model S P100D
MSRP (excluding delivery fees and custom clearing cost) $150,900 $187,610
Price in Naira 54.3 million ₦68 million

Also when you add a couple of pricey options to the Taycan Turbo S, you can make the argument that it could cost twice as much as the flagship Model S. Perhaps, the reason why this is so is not farfetched, Porsche is looking at the situation in a different light because the Taycan is its first and foremost fully-electric model, and one that was built for sustainable performance; the ability of the car to conduct lap after lap without overheating, adds all-round value to it.

Both cars have their pros and very few cons, don't you agree?

Finally, while there are many more similarities between the cars than differences; it is all up to the buyer to choose wisely and put his money where his heart really is. However, it is important to ask if the difference in the price of the Porsche Taycan is really justified when compared to the Tesla Model S.
