The Gorilla glass is tough, unshatterable, scratch-resistant and can block 99% of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.

Yesterday news was broken by Porsche announcing the Porsche 911 GT3 RS will be equipped with Gorilla Glass windows, which is for the sake of weight reducing.

Speaking of the Gorilla Glass, it is a super tough but light glass made scratch-resistant produced by Corning Inc. The product is mostly used on laptops, television, and mobile phones.

The Gorilla glass can block 99% of the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation (Traditional glass normally blocks 70%)

This kind of glass equipped in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS' rear and side windows only weigh 3.7 kg (8.2 pounds). Take the Porsche 911 for reference, its windows weigh up to 5.8 kg (12.8 pounds).

Not only impressive in terms of the lightweight, the Gorilla glass can block 99% of the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation while traditional glass normally blocks 70%.

However, because it’s new to the auto market, with its low demand, the glass will ask for a steep price, which will be a barrier for car buyers.

The merits go along with the downsides as well. Its flexibility doesn’t allow the car to set the Gorilla Glass in the side windows as at high speed, it may flex and be insecure when you roll the windows up.
