Good news for motorists in Uyo and Calabar, as operatives of the Nigerian police force reportedly captured 3 members of a car snatching syndicate that has been tormenting in both cities.
Press reports state that the 3 notorious car snatchers were arrested on Wednesday 2nd of December in Uyo where they usually sell their stolen cars. The best part of the news is that Akwa Ibom State police reported that the arrested suspects have confessed to the crime of snatching cars in Calabar and selling them in Uyo.
Even as at the time of their arrest, the police in Akwa Ibom State reported that the suspects recently snatched four cars.

According to press reports, luck seized to smile on the recently arrested car snatchers after they dispossessed one Reverend Father Ekefre of a car at a supermarket in Uyo.
The aggrieved Catholic priest narrated that he was at Richway Supermarket with a relative when the robbers scared him with harmful objects and took his car keys away. Unfortunately, the priest said he tossed his car keys to his relative who was eventually attacked and wounded by the suspects before they made away with the keys and the car itself.
Despite the suspects being able to run away with Rev. Fr. Ekefre’s car, they were unaware that his mobile phone was right inside the car all along. With the presence of the cell phone in the stolen, Akwa Ibom police operatives were able to trace the car and recover it back from a bush around Ikot Oku Ikono where it was hidden. In the same vein, the police were also able to capture the notorious car snatching syndicate and have them officially arrested.

With this new report and many other recent ones, it seems obvious that the police in Cross River state have intensified their efforts in recent time to curb the alarming rate of increase in robbery and kidnap crimes.
