Police in Akwa Ibom State begins “Operation Show Your Number Plate”

Sometimes in Nigeria, motorists have to deal with VIO, FRSC and yet still satisfy the rules or “demands” of law enforcement agencies like the Nigerian Police. Yes, this is the scenario currently playing out now in Akwa Ibom State as the police command begins an operation called “Show Your Number Plate”. Press reports claim that the Akwa Ibom state police began this new operation on Monday 2nd of November, 2020.

Media sources claim that SP Odiko MacDon, the spokesperson for the police command in Akwa Ibom state, reportedly confirmed this new update in his recent public statement. According to press reports, SP Odiko MacDon says that the new operation is aimed at curbing the rising cases of disregard for the use of the legal number plates in Akwa Ibom state. He says that the state police command is trying to stop the illegal covering of number plates and the complete lack of number plates on vehicles roaming freely within the state.

According to the SP MacDon, many car owners and motorists in Akwa Ibom state are becoming so fond of illegally covering their number plates or removing it totally while “cruising” town. He says that such unlawful and ridiculous acts make it difficult for the police to track some suspects who flee crime scenes in vehicles. Similar, the state police commissioner, CP Amienghene Andrew, is reportedly annoyed by these unlawful acts which have now become a “norm” for Akwa Ibom motorists. Press reports claim that the police commissioner is well aware of the new operation and has also confirmed its commencement. 

In other news, the police in Akwa Ibom State has reportedly recovered properties worth millions of naira from 10 suspects who looted warehouses during the recent riots. Watch the press report video below to see the recovered items.
