According to fresh media reports, Abubakar Opeyemi, a final year student of the University of Ilorin, Alimi Abiodun, a student of Kwara State Polytechnics and Idowu Rasaq, who happens to be a student of Kwara State Polytechnics, have all bagged jail sentences for their involvement in internet fraud-related crimes.

The three suspects pleaded guilty to separate offenses before Justice Mahmood Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, the state capital. In his judgment, Justice Abdulgafar on the separate cases on Tuesday relied on the defendants’ pleas and the various incriminating evidence presented before the court.
Opeyemi was sentenced to six months imprisonment, which is expected to be suspended for one year. The judge also gave an order that his iPhones, laptop and a draft of fifty thousand Naira he raised as restitution will be forfeited to the Federal Government. Abiodun, on the other hand, bagged three months imprisonment on count one and one year of jail time on count two expected to be suspended for one year as well. The convict also forfeited his iPhone and a draft of ₦352,000 to the Federal Government.

Idowu, who was the third convict, bagged six months of jail time, which would be suspended for six months. The sitting judge ordered the forfeiture of his 2014 Toyota Venza, a laptop, two iPhones and a sum of ₦404,414 found in his First Ban account to the Federal Government. According to further reports, the sentences are without any option of fine.
