Despite the increase in suspected and confirmed cases of Coronavirus infected persons in Oyo State, some rebellious residents still found time to gather in mass at clubhouses to have fun. This action led the state police task force to carry out a special raid operation on the night of Sunday 29th of March 2020, during which a total of 22 luxury cars were impounded.
Oyo Police impounds 22 luxury cars during a raid of clubhouses defying the government ban on public gatherings
The raid operation was carried out by the police enforcement team on Sunday night as they stormed several popular clubhouses at the state capital, Ibadan. There was no record of any arrest made however, many vehicles were impounded and crowds were dispersed as the clubhouses were forcefully locked down. This response by the Oyo Police is an effort to enforce the already announced state government ban on public gatherings at any location within the state to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

It should be noted that as of Tuesday 31st of March 2020, the Governor of Oyo State – Seyi Makinde has tested positive and is confirmed to have contracted the novel Coronavirus to make a total of 8 confirmed cases in the state. This is more reason why social distancing and avoidance of all public gatherings should be respected at this moment as the novel disease is spreading like wildfire with no respect for any race, tribe, or public position.
The coronavirus has taken a decided toll on Nigeria's automotive industry, as well as on other sectors.
