Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife has reportedly named a road in Osun state after a renowned Afenifere Chieftain who recently took an eternal rest. Press reports claim that Ooni of Ife honoured the late Chief Yinka Odumakin by naming the Ife-Moro road after him on Saturday 1st of May 2021 during his funeral service.

According to media reports, the Ooni of Ife was not directly present at the funeral of the Late Chief Yinka Odumakin but was rather represented by Sooko Kemade Elugbaju who also delivered the Ooni’s speech. During the funeral service which took place in Moro town, the Ooni described the Late Chief Odumakin as a diligent Afenifere figure who exudes a high level of patriotism in all his deeds when he was alive.
The Ooni of Ife also revealed in his speech that the demise of Late Chief Odumakin is one that could be described as a “rude shock” for Yorubaland and Nigeria as a whole because he is so much needed at this crucial time. The Monarch particularly highlighted that the late Chief Odumakin was among the loudest and fearless pro-democracy voices we have ever had in Nigeria and Yorubaland. In honour of the late Chieftain’s works and revolutionary efforts, the Ooni of Ife announced that the popular Ife-Moro road in Osun State will now be named after the late Chief.
