According to a new report reaching us, the driver behind the wheel of a fuel tanker lost his life on Wednesday in an accident that took place around the Soka area of Ibadan, the capital city of Ibadan.
The fuel tanker fell off the Soka Bridge in Ibadan and plunged into the river
The truck was reportedly heading towards Ibadan from Lagos, when the driver lost control of the articulated fuel truck and fell off the Soka Bridge, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. From the eyewitness’s report, the tanker plunged into the river the moment it fell off the Soka Bridge. Unfortunately, the driver was found dead right on the spot.
According to Assistant Commandant Shehu Ibn Umar, who happens to the Head of Disaster Management of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp in Oyo State, said the unfortunate incident could either be traced to fatigue caused by driving over a long period of time or brake failure.
Moreover, Umar also revealed that as a result of the distress call received from his office, the rescue team was sent to the scene of this accident, where they worked in partnership with the men from the state’s fire service.
The driver of the fuel tanker died right on the spot
He also confirmed the fate of the driver, who died from the crash. As for the condition of the fuel tanker, Umar revealed that it was severely damaged to the extent that oil was spilling out of its tank. He stressed that his men were present to enforce law and order and also to prevent people from scooping the fuel, which could to lead a serious fire disaster. This was similar to the recent incident on Festac Link Bridge in Lagos caused by a diesel tanker.
Umar disclosed that the remains of this late driver have been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue.
