Ondo road crash burns 4 to death, hospitalizes 14 others

More lives continue to be cut short in road crashes. The latest was an accident along the popular Benin/Owo expressway in Ondo State – Owo Local Government Area, precisely. Four of the passengers were burnt to death while fourteen were scarred with severe injuries.

Things fell apart after a J5 bus had a frontal collision with a Toyota Hiace on Thursday, October 17, 2019.

The incident was confirmed by Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command. According to him, the tragedy occurred around 3a to 4am that morning. He said one of the vehicles with registration number MKD 341 XA took off from Lagos with eighteen passengers onboard, heading for Makurdi. The second vehicle registered BDG 330 AP took off from Benin, and was Akure bound before the accident.

Injured passengers were rushed to the Federal Medical Center in Owo for quick medical attention. Remains of the passengers burnt to death were taken to the morgue in the hospital’s premises.

Speaking on how such accidents could be avoided, Joseph urged drivers to desist from over speeding especially in the last months of the year popularly referred to as ember months.
