A new report has just reached us here on Naijauto, on a possible attack on the convoy of one Eyitayo Jegede, who happens to be the gubernatorial candidate running under the Peoples Democratic Party, Ondo chapter. This unfortunate attack was carried out by suspected armed political thugs in Ipele and Owo, Owo Local Government area of the state.

To further aggravate the situation, one Amuda Sikiru, who happens to be a member of the party’s convoy under attack, was shot in the abdomen and face while the campaign rally was going on in Owo. Fingers have been pointed to those thugs suspected to be working for the rival party, which is the All Progressive Party (APC). Just recently, Controversies arose after Governor Akeredolu gifted pro-government lawmakers new cars but allegedly ignored others that didn't support him.
From what we learnt, Amuda was rushed quickly to the state’s specialist hospital, where he is currently under intensive medical care. Other wounded people identified as Segun Ogunlade and Taye Akintufede are also receiving treatment at this same hospital.
As a result of the targeted attack, many of the vehicles used for the campaign by PDP were seriously damaged, while one of the party’s convoy trucks was set ablaze by these heavily armed political thugs.

According to Samuel Fasua, who is the Director, Media and Research of Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organization, confirmed the report of this attack, where the suspected political hoodlum from the opposition denied access to the candidate’s maternal home in Ipele community, with the intent of turning back the campaign team.

The campaign director stated that such an attack threatens the peace of Ondo State and creates violence prior to the forthcoming governorship election in October 2020. The police IG, human right bodies and international civil societies are being called on to come to their rescue in the state to ensure a free, credible and fair election.
