The first official hearing of this Offa robbery case took place on the 25th of January 2019 as car stickers, vehicles and some ammunition were tendered as exhibits by a prosecution witness, Inspector Yusuf Dauda.

In the hearing of this robbery case, 5 suspects stood trial and their names were; Niyi Ogundiran, Salaudeen Azeez, Adeola Abraham, Ibikunle Ogunleye, and Ayoade Akinnibosun. They were all charged with murder, illegal possession of firearms and armed robbery.
If you recall that according to records, 5 commercial banks were robbed during the incident as well as 9 policemen killed which totaled to about 30 people altogether who were killed while the sum of the money stolen from the five banks remains undisclosed.
Justice Halimat Salman presided over the court while Inspector Dauda testified before the court claiming that a certain CSP Danjuma Adamu who happens to be a former Offa Local Government divisional police officer handed over some ammunition and weapons which were allegedly used in the robbery operation by the culprits. Inspector Dauda claims that he had been handed over these exhibits on the 10th of April, 2018 because he happened to be the current exhibit keeper Nigeria Police Kwara State headquarters, Ilorin.
The two suspects were revealed
A private prosecutor (SAN) – Prof. Wahab Egbewole led the prosecution as Dauda accounted that the exhibits he had gotten included a damaged Padlock, one safety box for cartridge (on which Ikoyi South-West, Lagos was written), one 5.6mm live ammunition, 4 used bullets, 2 expended cartridges, and 7.6mm ammunition (36 expended).
Inspector Dauda also mentioned that one Inspector Hassan who was attached to the IGP rescue team on the 15th of April, 2018 brought to him a Mercedes-Benz Kompressor with 4 stickers bearing “Saraki”, and also one Lexus SUV which as well had the sticker bearing “Saraki”. All these items were tendered as exhibits by the prosecution side in the hearing.
Inspector Hitila Hassan who is attached to the IGP’s intelligence unit was another witness in the hearing, he said that he was among the police officers that investigated the robbery case and made the arrest of the 5 accused persons standing at the court trial at that moment of the hearing.
He claims that the entire robbery operation was planned and conceived by Ibikunle Ogunleye, Ayoade Akinnibosun, and a late Michael Adikwu, who was reported to have supplied the gang with the ammunition as well as led the April 5 Offa robbery operation.

He said the police record has it that the gang had met on April 2nd and 3rd at Ajase-Ipo and Oro town for the robbery operation plans respectively before the eventual execution on the 5th of April, 2018.
Inspector Hitila also added that the CCTV clips had been used to fish out the real identity of the Offa robbery operation participants. He also mentioned that the police were to discover 3 vehicles used for the robbery operation which includes a Volkswagen Audi 80 that belongs to Adikwu, a Kompressor Mercedes Benz Kompressor which belongs Akinnibosun, and a certain Nissan Primera which was brought by the other participants in the robbery operation who were now at large.
He also stated that during the police investigation, Ibikunle had confessed of killing 2 victims when they tried apprehending him as the robbery operation was going on. Also, he said that Adeola and Niyi Ogundiran confessed of killing 2 and 5 people respectively during the operation as well.

Inspector Hitila also mentioned that 2 of the accused confessed with an affirmation that all the policemen that died during the robbery must have been killed by Adikwu as he had always shouted at police stations saying the words:
“The Nigeria Police has offended him by dismissing him from service and he would take revenge.”
