Japan is set to get a new Nissan NV400 panel van model that will become the country’s first electric ambulance
While many people are still asking if Nigeria is ready for electric cars, nations like Japan are beginning to apply the technology further, from use as passenger buses down to ambulances. Recently, Nissan Thailand launched its latest electric car, which combines electric vehicle technology with internal combustion engine technology. This new model – the Nissan Kick is a vehicle that uses both petrol fuel and EV battery in an interesting application.
According to reports, the new Nissan NV400 electric ambulance will be the first of its kind in Japan. It was also stated that the Tokyo Fire Department’s station at Ikebukuro will be first to use this electric ambulance. It is worth mentioning that even though this new electric ambulance is badged as Nissan NV400, it is pretty much an electric Renault Master Z.E van at its heart.
Yes, some of the features shared with the Renault van includes the same a 33kWh battery and a 55kW motor that drives the van’s front wheels. This powertrain translates to a total of 74hp and 162 lb-ft of torque.
The Japanese automaker, Nissan electrified many other features that come with the NV400 electric ambulance
This new Nissan NV400 electric ambulance does not just come as an electric vehicle alone but also packs some unique electric features that could set a standard for future electric ambulances. Two of these unique features include:
- Extra 8kWh Li-ion battery pack – for separately operating medical equipment inside the electric ambulance for a longer period of time without affecting the vehicle’s battery itself. This extra battery pack can also be used as a standalone generator to even power other external medical equipment during emergencies.
- Electric stretcher – presumably a traditional stretcher with electric motor(s) added to enable medical workers to push it around easily.
