Last weekend, there was serious confusion after reports that two Nigerian soldiers killed an Islamic cleric in Yobe and stole his Honda car. The allegedly murdered cleric has been identified as Sheikh Goni Aisami, a very popular Islamic scholar. Reports claim that the was travelling from Kano to Gashua last Friday when the soldiers killed him on the road. Fortunately, the Nigeria police have confirmed that the two suspected soldiers linked to the murder case have been arrested.

According to police sources, Sheikh Goni Aisami was killed after giving two soldiers a free ride from the Nguru military checkpoint to Jaji-Maji. The town is said to be a small community under the Karasuwa LGA, Yobe State. The police report alleged that the two soldiers shot Sheikh Goni Aisami inside his 2006 Honda Accord car which has red colour. The cleric’s body was then taken away by the soldiers at around 9:00 pm in the late-night hour.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the Yobe state police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest of the two soldier suspects. He revealed that the two military men are said to be Lance Corporals and they are allegedly attached to the 241 Battalion in Nguru, Yobe. Their names are also revealed to be Adamu Gideon and John Gabriel.
After so much tension, the Nigerian Army has finally reacted to the recent news of two soldiers that killed a Yobe Islamic cleric. The Sector Operation “Hadin Kai” headquarters said that it is currently investigating this incident. This was made known via a statement released yesterday August 22. The Army sector has reportedly instituted a certain Board to inquire and unravel the circumstances surrounding this shocking incident. It was also revealed that all the soldiers involved will be disciplined under appropriate law if found guilty of the crime.
