Luxury brands are redefining their design strategy and are now building more luxury cars that offer very impressive fuel efficiency numbers as you will see in our highlight of the most fuel-efficient luxury cars of 2020 below!

There has been no time in our history than now where the issue of fuel economy is viewed as a major deciding factor in the purchase of cars no matter the luxury level. Now some rich guys have parked up their expensive luxury cars basically because these cars are fuel demons and just too expensive to fuel and use. 50 liters of PMS and you are already in trouble 7 days down the line if you are the type that is always on the road, while same 50 liters will take a Toyota Corolla a good 2 weeks before he will have to visit a filling station for another buy.

So with this in mind, several luxury brands are redefining their design strategy and are now building more luxury cars that offer very impressive fuel efficiency numbers as you will see in our highlight of the most fuel-efficient luxury cars of 2020. The great use of hybrid power as compliment to the hydrocarbon engines is surely paying off as the numbers are now getting higher up. Let's get into the details as Naijauto preview our first car on the list.

1. Audi A4 and Audi A3 2020

  • Audi A4 35 TDI sedan -  57.4 - 61.9 mpg
  • Audi A3 30 TDI S tronic sedan - 60.3-61.9 mpg

Audi a German auto-maker and a member of the Volkswagen group has always taken the front seat when it comes to building cars that are fuel-efficient. One of their most popular models in Nigeria, the Audi 80 is known to be a king of fuel efficiency. However, Audi's latest addition to the fuel economy clan, the 2020 Audi A4 wears its own crown, posting some really impressive figures.

The 2020 A4 is offered in two different body styles accompanying the seven different trims with the poorest performing trim the Audi A4 45 TFSI sedan delivering as much a 34.6-36.2 mpg while the best performing trim when it comes to fuel efficiency, the Audi A4 35 TDI sedan posts fuel economy estimates of 57.4 - 61.9 mpg.

On the other hand, 2020 Audi A3  fuel economy figures go toe-to-toe with the A4 recording numbers that are a real competition. For the 30 TDI engine with S tronic transmission, the combined fuel economy rating stands at 60.3-61.9 mpg.

2. Lexus ES 300h 2020

  • 43/ 44/ 44 mpg city/ highway/ combined

The luxury arm of the Toyota Corporation is definitely towing the part of its parent company by building cars that are just fuel-efficient. We love the Camry and Corolla's of this world mainly because they help us save a whole lot of cash on fuel, by only sipping off the fuel from our tanks. Anyways, the 2020 Lexus ES delivers one of the best numbers so far, standing tall at 44 mpg combined even as it 2.5 Liter In-line 4 cylinder engine pumps out a solid 205 hp.

However, this figure is only achieved with the 2020 Lexus ES 300h with the hybrid powertrain, while the 2020 Lexus ES 350 luxury model puts out a commendable 22/32 mpg (city/highway) from its 302 hp 3.5 Liter V6 engine non-hybrid. This luxury car offers some cutting edge features like the Lexus Enform, industry-first Mark Levinson Pureplay for your audio satisfaction and Lexus Safety System 2.0 which offers active safety to you and your car.

3. Lincoln Hybrid Reserve 2020

  • 42/ 39/ 41 mpg city/ highway/ combined

Who doesn't like a Lincoln. I'm not sure there are so many persons around that will reject a Lincoln. The exclusivity of the Lincoln brand gives every model of the Lincoln family some layer of wholesome pride and an unendurable level of arrogance especially perceived by the competition.

The 2020 Hybrid Reserve model of the Lincoln MKZ breathes excellence and luxury all around. Even more impressive are the numbers attached to its fuel economy listing which stands at 42/39/41 mpg (city/highway/combined respectively). The interesting part of this number is the EPA fuel economy rating for city drive (42 mpg), isn't that just impressive. Most of us drive around more within the city, with the several stop and go that characterizes these areas, and to have such high number for city drive is just so good that I think this one ranks best for me.

4. Mercedes Benz CLA 250 2020

  • 25/ 35 mpg city/ highway

The Mercedes Benz brand is world-famous and its models are always associated with engineering excellence and mechanical reliability even as the German automaker keeps up with the fuel efficiency campaign very obvious in the modern-day auto industry. They have succeeded in building cars that may not wear the fuel efficiency crown but post figures that are commendable given the high-performance engine and technology they infuse in their cars.

The 2020 Mercedes Benz CLA 250 Coupe falls in this category of luxury car with some of the coolest features and technology but still very energy efficient. Looking at the fuel economy estimates, which stands at 25/ 35 mpg city/ highway delivered by its 208 hp 2.0 Liter Inline 4-cylinder engine, it just heaves out some relaxing relieve on us. 5. BMW 330i 2020

  • 26/36/30 mpg city/ highway/ combined

BMW will not be left out of this party as the make an entry here with its best offering for 2020 so far when it comes to fuel efficiency. It is worthy to note that BMW has been building cars that are energy efficient across its models but our pick here is the rugged 2020 330i. This one goes for a whooping ₦15 million and comes with a 2.0 Liter Twin Turbo 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic sport transmission accompanying it. This power train delivers an impressive 26/36/30 mpg city/ highway/ combined EPA estimated fuel economy rating.

6. Volvo S90 and S60 2020

  • S90 T8 eAWD Momentum Plug-in Hybrid model - 26/33/29 mpg
  • S60 T5 FWD Momentum model - 24/36/28 mpg

Who remembers Volvo 240 (My brothers in the South East-South South won't need an introduction to this car. Was very famous in that part of the country and it still is), the very heavy and metallic Volvo that starts up with an angry growl that I heard over three rivers away and oh she was known for gulping the petrol for the fun of it. Anyways that era seems to be us now as the Swedish car making just delivered something that is rivaling the very best in the category of most fuel-efficient cars of 2020.

The 2020 Volvo S90 and S60 deliver numbers that are just as good. S90's T8 eAWD Momentum Plug-in Hybrid model that comes with a 4-Cylinder Inline Supercharged Engine accompanied by 87 hp Electric Motor delivers the best EPA fuel economy rating considering other models in the 2020 s90 family which include both combustion engine only systems and hybrid power train systems as well. The T8 eAWD Momentum Plug-in Hybrid model post a fuel EPA rating of 26/33/29 mpg (city/highway/combined) from its 400 hp and 472 lb-ft powertrain.

Volvo-S90

On the other hand, the 2020 Volvo S60 is also here to compete. For example, the ₦13 million T5 FWD Momentum model with its 2.0 Liter 4-Cylinder Turbocharged engine delivers a solid 24/36/28 mpg (city/highway/combined) estimated fuel consumption rating which is a similar rating observed in every other front-wheel-drive FWD models in the 2020 S60 class. The AWD all-wheel-drive models post lower ratings standing at about 21/32/25 mpg (city/highway/combined).

So that's the group most guys will be looking out for to place an order for. However, it is fair to warn you beforehand if you're going for the cars with hybrid power train, that you may have to replace them more after they run out of charge since there is basically no approved charging station in Nigeria. Moreover, the Nigerian government seems not to be a big fan of electric cars as they see it as a threat to the oil business which is their predominant source of revenue. All the same, the cars mentioned above really cool options as they are just good and frugal at fuel consumption and will definitely keep the bills on the low side for you.
