Military truck ran over a Keke in Damaturu, killing a Polytechnic student & another

A military truck crushed two passengers to death after colliding with a Keke, including a female student of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu. The state government is taking necessary actions to contain the situation!

An accident involving a military truck and a Keke left two people dead in the capital of Yobe State, Damaturu. One of the deceased passengers who lost their lives was an undergraduate of the Federal Polytechnic located in Damaturu.

A Keke stands no chance against the military truck in this crash

Naijauto gathered that the fatal road crash took place around the traffic junction situated on the popular Gashua road. The military armored vehicle had a collision with the Keke as it attempted to move in the opposite direction.

Concerned parties including the state’s civil society have aired their opinion about the incident.

Abubakar Baba Shehu, Executive Director of CSOs in the state revealed that the civil society was waiting on findings from the ongoing investigations before making its position on the issue public.

In a swift move to ensure peace over the incident, the state government paid a condolence visit to families of the deceased. This was disclosed in a statement authorized by the Director General Press Affairs to the Executive Governor, Mai Mala Buni, Abdullahi Bego. According to the statement, the governor gave an order for thorough investigations to be carried out. This is to be supervised by the state government acting secretary in collaboration with the military. He also ordered the provision of free medical care to victims of the accident in the hospital.

Part of the statement reads thus:

“Governor Buni’s thoughts, sympathies and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives and with the victims who sustained injuries.

“The governor prays Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant repose to the souls of those who died, fast recovery to those who sustained injuries and fortitude to bear the loss for families of the victims.

“His Excellency Governor Buni has directed the office of the acting Secretary to the State Government to liaise with the military in order to have a full investigation and ascertain how the accident happened and how such could be avoided in the future.

“The governor has also directed the State Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to ensure that those who sustained injuries are given access to free medical care.”

Motorists are advised to drive with caution especially around heavy vehicles.
