The governments in most advanced countries are rolling out stricter emission standards these days, which is really pushing various automakers to come up with new solutions for future cars. The popular British luxury automaker, McLaren, believes that synthetic fuels should be the new path to consider for the internal combustion engine. On the other hand, German auto giant – Mercedes-Benz isn’t supporting synthetic fuels but instead decided that it will be going the electric route for its future cars.
Mercedes-Benz believes electric vehicles are a better solution to meeting emission standards than synthetic fuels
While most of the newly launched 2021 Toyota Hybrid cars are part of the Japanese automaker’s idea of meeting emission standards, Mercedes-Benz is going full-electric instead. The head of development and research at Mercedes-Benz, Markus Schafer, disclosed to Autocar recently that synthetic fuel will most likely benefit the aviation sector first. Then down the line, cars may also later benefit from synthetic fuel but not in less than 10years from now.
Markus Schafer said he believes the use of energy to create synthetic fuel is merely counterproductive for now. He will rather let engineers funnel energy directly into a battery for reuse. Daimler, which is also the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is yet to return any request for official comments about the company’s view on synthetic fuel solutions.
With electric vehicle technology, Mercedes-Benz is prepared to serve top-notch luxury in its future cars
Considering all of these reports and the amazing efforts that Mercedes-Benz is putting into its Vision EQS all-electric concept car, we can already guess the automaker is going full electric for future cars. Confirming this view further, Markus Schafer himself mentioned that Mercedes-Benz now considers electrification first when looking at any new platform for its cars. So, you should mostly be expecting more hybrid and electric cars from Mercedes-Benz in the coming years rather than improved gasoline-powered cars requiring synthetic fuels.
