During this week, tragedy struck when a 40-ft container fell and crushed an unidentified man to death in Lagos State. This incident happened on Wednesday 11th of May 2022 and it also affected a female passer-by, who sustained serious injuries at Costain roundabout. According to reports, brake failure was responsible for this incident that led to the death of one and an injury on the other.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed this unfortunate incident in a statement on Thursday. He revealed that the male victim gave up the ghost right on the spot while the surviving woman sustained serious injuries on her left leg. The LASEMA boss added that the agency activated its swift Emergency Response Plan after they were notified of the incident that happened on the night of Wednesday. He said they got a report of a possible incident where a 40ft container claimed the life of a male passer-by and injured a woman that was also in the area at the time.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the LASEMA response team was able to rescue the female victim alive with injuries on her leg. He further stated that the agency’s paramedic team administered first-aid treatment on the woman's leg before they rushed her to a nearby medical hospital for more treatment. From the statement, it was revealed that the container fell off the articulated truck after it suffered brake failure en route COSTAIN roundabout. The body of the male victim was retrieved from the scene and handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU). Also, LASEMA used their heavy-duty forklift to take the truck and the container that caused the havoc off the road. The articulated truck and the fallen container were eventually handed over to the men of the Nigeria Police Force present at the scene.
