2021 is getting a lot better for one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time as he receives his knighthood from the Queen of England. With this latest honour, Lewis Hamilton has joined the exclusive list of knighted sportsmen such as Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah, Tennis star Andy Murray, prolific cyclist Bradley Wiggins and cricketer Alastair Cook. This United Kingdom New Year’s honours list, including the last knighthood bestowed on Lewis Hamilton, was published last Wednesday.

The 35-year-old emerged as the formula 1 most successful driver after equaling the 7 titles record held by Michael Schumacher and also beating the 91 race wins of the great German Ferrari driver. Hamilton’s supporters were quite excited with this news considering the achievements of the driver over the years.

According to Stefano Domenicali, who happens to the newly-appointed Formula One chief executive and a former team principal for Ferrari, revealed that Lewis Hamilton is a true giant of the sport and his influence extends outside the car. He believes Hamilton’s achievement is phenomenal and worthy of recognition.

Lewis Hamilton according to Toto Wolf, Mercedes team boss, won his first title in 2008 with McLaren. He believes Hamilton should be considered as the most successful British sportsperson of his generation. Wolf stated that the knighthood couldn’t come at a better time for his huge success in motorsport.

Lewis Hamilton receives knighthood
Hamilton is the fourth Formula 1 driver to receive the knighthood after Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham and Jackie Stewart. He is also the first driver to get this honour while still active in the sport.
