From the latest report reaching us, the government of Lagos State has announced a date for a temporary closure of the Independence Bridge at Bonny Camp for necessary maintenance works. This repair work from the officially released statement will start from the 1st of March to the 2nd of May, 2020.
Lagos State set to shut down Independence Bridge temporarily from motorists for repair works
The Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, disclosed the objective of this project, which is the replacement of worn-out expansion joints. After which they will lay the asphalt concrete on the highlighted bridge. This according to him will give more strength to the road infrastructure.
Since the state is closing the bridge from road users in order to prevent possible interruptions during the repair work, there is an alternative route, which is the Falomo Bridge, to be used by people in the state to access their destinations.

The Commissioner stated that the on-going project under the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing along that axis has shown massive progress and will aid smooth movement for road users along Onikan Road corridors and Bonny Camp.

The Commissioner has also appealed to motorists to comply fully with the directives given by Traffic Officers and road signs to reduce or eliminate any form of inconvenience to road users. Oladeinde also appealed to every Lagosian to cooperate with this new directive so as to ensure quick completion of the maintenance work.
