It is no more news that numerous crimes are being committed every day in Lagos by hoodlums riding on motorcycles. This seems to be the reason why the Lagos State government has now extended the Okada ban to cover 4 new LGs and 6 LCDAs. The Lagos state commissioner for transport made this update known to the public in a statement released on Thursday. He explained that the extension of the Okada ban is mainly to tighten security across the state.
The government of Lagos state has recently extended the Okada ban to four Local Govts and 6 other LCDAs
Dr Frederic Oladeinde, the Lagos state transport commissioner has explained that security reasons made the government extend its ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada). He disclosed that the extension of the total Okada ban now covers the below local councils in Lagos State.
- Odi-Olowo LCDA
- Mushin Local govt & Bariga LCDA
- Shomolu Local govt
- Isolo LCDA
- Oshodi-Isolo Local govt
- Agboyi-Ketu LCDA & Ikosi-Isherri LCDA
- Kosofe Local govt
According to the Lagos state transport commissioner, the new extension of the Okada ban is a “second” phase of the state government’s clampdown on commercial motorcycle operations. He disclosed that the Lagos state government is taking these actions to further secure the lives and properties of residents across the state. As agencies begin to enforce this Okada ban extension, the general public is advised to use other alternative transport means. Some of these other public transport means included LAGRIDE, BRT scheme as well as First and Last Mile transport scheme. These alternatives are believed to be sufficient enough for Lagosians to go about their day-to-day activities. Also, affected Okada riders are advised to look into existing government interventions that are meant to empower citizens.
